WOODCOCKS – APRIL 14, 2013

American Woodcock

PEENTS & PEEPS IN THE NIGHT!

Alula Birding & Natural History Tours celebrated spring when we traveled to the North Fork Preserve in Riverhead, Suffolk County’s newest park. We enjoyed the beauty of the park as we hiked and looked for Spring migrants. At twilight we listened for the amorous “peents” of Woodcocks calling for mates, and enjoyed spectacular aerial courtship displays. As night fell, we were treated to a chorus of spring peepers.

A wonderful way to spend a spring evening!!
